HyperPhysics

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

The hyperphysics sites indicates that “.... HyperPhysics is an exploration environment for concepts in physics which employs concept maps and other linking strategies to facilitate smooth navigation. ....The entire environment is interconnected with thousands of links, reminiscent of a neural network ….

The rationale for such concept maps is to provide a visual survey of conceptually connected material, and it is hoped that they will provide some answers to the question “where do I go from here?”

What a great job this site is!

Major Advance in A/C — Good News For the Environment and Your Wallet

Friday, May 21st, 2004

One of the first commercial demontration of a super efficient air conditioning system is taking place a Mt. Saint Vincent Scool in NW Denver. So far, this new product shows an outstanding saving for cooling (80.2 percent less power than convential A/C.) This is not a typo and the product delivers what is promised. Coolerado will have residential Units are ready for a rollout within the next few month—The commercial units are already available.

This will be a giantic contribution to the enviroment due to the collective future savings in energy needed for cooling and, needless to say, will take reduce pollutants.

The Lightest and Lowest-density Solid Known

Thursday, May 6th, 2004

What is the lightest and lowest-density solid known?

Aerogel is the lightest and lowest-density solid known to exist to date. It is really a mixture of glass and quarts and a ethanol. So waht? well it is a WONDERFUL material. It is one of the best known insulator. transparent and blue in color. New technological advance should soon permit clear/transparent aerogel.

Follow the first link below to find out how the stuff is made.

Here is good science fair project, not to mention the research application for amateur scientists on a bear budget desiring to study how things flow and how they get disturbed. This site show a way to experiments with smoke that can be performed using a Plexiglas box and a burning stick of incense.

BreakPoint: Arguing With Evolution

Wait Don’t go away. Remember what I said before, the truth stands on its own. Maybe are are some points to be made here! Or, is it that it is just a matter of interpretation. Give others an ear, they have their points too.

“Spy” on the Senses

Tuesday, May 4th, 2004

Find out how brain scans that “spy” on the Senses.

New imaging techniques have made a tremendous impact on the understanding as to which region of the brain is being affected by different Senses. New techniques now being developped will have even greater impact on the medical “understanding” of what is going on below our scalps. This site [

http://www.hhmi.org/senses/f110.html ] explores the science of the Senses. When I say, “this site”, it does not mean a casual site. This is the site of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The opening page is at: http://www.hhmi.org/

Holography for the DIY

Tuesday, May 4th, 2004

A holographic process is a process which captures light waves and wave properties hitting an object and stores these 3-dimensional wave information onto a 2-dimensional media. in such a way that just the wave-information is enough to reconstruct the image of that object. Most people think of holograms as a way to project 3-dimensional pictures having some sort of perspectives. That, as fascinating as it may, is not the only thing makes holograms absolutely amazing. The fact is that each grain, yes, each grain, in the medium contain enough information to reconstruct a whole pictures. What is the down-side? The fact is that, the smaller the “cut” the less detailed it is. Yet, each piece is enough to “identify” a whole picture. The implications here are ENORMOUS. I am presently in the process of writing an essay on this subject. As you shall soon see holography will go a long way to explain so to the most mysterious phenomenon.

Creating a hologram is a very difficult and tedious process. One of the critical thing for making holograms is a REFERENCE laser beam. That beam has to be absolutely steady—the least disturbance will upset the holographic process. The ground vibrations cause by outside vehicular traffic, for example, is enough to kill the holographic-making process. To ensure a steady platform an expensive optical platform is necessary. However, leave it to the do-it-yourselvers of society, and you they will come up with elegant inexpensive way of doing things. For information, check out:

This laser site also shows you how to create your own holography using inexpensive laser pointers. Visit this page on their site:
