Meteorology online guides

This site incorporate text, colorful diagrams, animations, computer simulations, audio and video to introduce fundamental concepts in the atmospheric sciences.

Get your daily dose of astronomy

Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer

FusionAnomaly

What a neat site! Don't let the name throw you off. There are about 1700 pages (or nodes) as the site's author calls them. What an educational trip. You'll have to comeback to the site several times or you're going to get an information overload. I visit this site quite often because, as they say, it is continually morphing. Note: if the animation bothers you you can always stop with the brwoser stop button.

Space Hot List

Here is a multiple-award site on space and space technology. This site is well worth to bookmarking because it will take you awhile to fully investigate the multitude of space subjects.

Neat Science Ezines

Virtual Solar System

This National Geographics site gives you a chance to discover the wonders of our solar system in a spectacular 3-D environment. Take a fly-by tour of the sun and each planet in its orbit, observe close-up views of the planets, extraterrestrial weather patterns, and more.

Science Hobbyist

Do you care to be catapulted into a fascinating realm? Check out this site devoted to the scientific hobbyist. It is a realm of weird experimental sciences including magnetic levitation, holograms, 'perpetual motion' and much much more.

The Why Files

At http://whyfiles.org you will find very lucid answers to many of the WHY questions in science, health, environment and technology. The WhyFiles portray the world of science for what it is, an important human endeavor conducted by ordinary people.

Top Science Sites

At the risk of duplicating something that I may already have covered, I am including a link to this site which has a link collection to top scientific sites.

Buckminster Fuller

Buckmister Fuller, had many other inventions besides the geodesic dome. This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)will quickly expose the reader to some of his tremendous ideas. Also, check out Fuller's view of the universe, concept of space, his ideas about human society, his views on religion and God, and much more. TRIVIA: Did you know that a geodesic dome can weight less than the sum of it's construction components? Why? Check the FAQ for this answer.

Ela Engineering Directory

What you always wanted to know about practical engineering, practical physics, as well as other scientific applications, but wouldn't dare to ask. What a golden collection of links for those of you who are inquisitive as to what makes our world and the universe tic. This site is, in my book, a 5-star site. At least, drop in and look at their index. I guarantee that you will be sucked-in a time black hole.

Sonoluminescence

World of Amber

If you thought you knew what amber was, take a look at this comprehensive coverage of this fascinating material which may contain imbedded insects that are millions of years old.

All about Corrosion

RUST is a process akin to "cancer" but to metallic materials. Corrosion has plagued the human race ever since metal were discovered. Thirty years ago, a 4-year automobile was already showing signs of rusting; by age 7 it was ready to be retired. Today, a 10-year old car is still "young," thanks to new processes (i.e. one-side galvanizing) and the use of new material. Still the backbone of heavy-duty stuff is steel which is highly suceptibe to corrosion. I have found an excellent link which covers this subject -- corrosions and its prevention. It is well worth perusing.

The Levitron -- An "Gravity Defying Toy"

Not really an antigravity machine, but it looks like it is. First, check this site which sells the "toy." Then, if you are intrigued by what is behind this magnetic effect, check this site.

Technological Advances in Optical Applications

This link to OE Reports covers technology and trends for the international optical engineer. Don't let that scare you, the reports are easily understood by laymen. If you want to find out what the future hold on the subject of optical advances, this is the place to check. Advance in optics have and will have significant impacts on our daily lives.

For all of you Science Buffs!

Here is a must-do-daily task to keep up with all the new technology and current advances in research. Make sure you visit the Scientific American News Briefs.

BreakPoint: Arguing With Evolution

Wait!!! Don't go away. Remember what I said before, the truth stands on its own. Maybe are are some points to be made here! Or, is it that it is just a matter of interpretation. Give others an ear, they have their points too.

An Audio Spotlight

A beam of light can be controlled in many ways --, it can be aimed at one person in a crowd, spread to fill a room, or projected to create rich, distant imagery. We can now do these very same things with sound. "The Audio SpotlightTM, invented and developed at the MIT Media Lab, is a device which uses subtle nonlinear properties of the air to create an extremely narrow Sound BeamTM. This beam of sound behaves just like a beam of light - 'shining' it at a specific listener allows only that person to hear it, and projecting it against a surface creates an acoustic 'image' at the point of reflection."

Space Weather

If the ominous whole in the ozone layer get a lot worse, don't be surprised if you have to check the "weather" in outer space as a daily task... particularly the the sun's behavior. Besides, the speed of the solar wind, you may check for news and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids.

Poor Richard's Web Site News

You know the feeling, you know that you had booked marked a site a couple years ago, but with all the hardware and software hiccups your machine may have had, you thought you lost the link -- forever. I was going trough some old backups and I found a site that I had lost ages ago. "Eureka!" the site was still alive and got better. The archive collection has gotten a lot bigger and even more interesting. If you dabble in site design and promotion, a quick visit will enrich your development skill repertoire.
