Will Aerogel Let You Put a 24 GigaHertz Computer on Your Desktop by 2006?

The challenge to maintaining Moore's law down to molecular scale turns out not to hinge on smaller transistors but on better ways to keep the interconnecting wires from shorting across the narrow dividing space between them. That's where aerogel, as the best solid dielectric ever created, may be the secret for next generation growth.

T-Mail --Translating the internet

T-mail for email translations, T-Sail for translating the web, and T-time to enable Webmaster. Wow! check this site out. They say "Any Language in, your language out." ... well the word "any" is not quite right but they do handle a lot of languages. They are now working on Korean, Hebrew, Hindi and Arabic; English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portugese, Russian, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese is now available. Mind you, there is no perfect translator -- at least not yet --- but this is good enough to let you communicate with friends who do not know your language.[Link suggested by Chris Herff]

Neat Stuff on the Computer Scene

In your mind's eye, what is a server? Are picturing big main frame computers,or, a more modest gizmo the size of your computer? A laptop, perhaps? Well they come in all sizes including something the size of a matchbox. Yes, it can get even smaller, but somehow you still have to connect to the rest of the world. What do you do when the connectors are bigger than the computer? Where is this all heading? Well who knows .... check out this site. What's coming up? Well is is almost in the realm of science fiction. The Japanese have apparently managed to pack 1TB of memory into cubic centimeter. Now that's miniaturization! AND, there is more to come as they the labs are already working at the molecular level.
